Guiding Principles
At the core of the Chapter 11 planning process is the concept of Sustainable Development. Sustainable Development, as defined in the Umbrella Final Agreement, is considered to be “beneficial socio-economic change that does not undermine the ecological and social systems upon which communities and societies are dependent”.

A major goal of the North Yukon regional land use plan is to promote the principles of Sustainable Development through an integrated resource management framework. To achieve this goal, the planning process must engage a broad group of land users and managers.

Local and traditional knowledge is used throughout the process to provide both planning information and guidance on plan objectives.
